Delirium Words is an independently maintained editorial website. Professor Alasdair MacLullich is the data controller for personal information handled directly by the site. There are no public accounts, comments, contact form or newsletter sign-up.
Limited website analytics
Limited Google Analytics 4 is used solely to produce aggregate statistics and improve this website. It is on when a page loads unless you turn it off. The site does not use Analytics for advertising, and Google Signals and advertising personalisation are disabled.
This use relies on the statistical-purposes exception in the Privacy and Electronic Communications Regulations and the legitimate interest in understanding and improving the service. You can object free of charge and turn analytics off at any time.
What analytics may receive
Analytics may receive the page address and title, referral information, approximate location, and browser, device and interaction information. Do not submit confidential or patient-identifiable information through this site.
Cookies and retention
Google Analytics may set first-party cookies beginning _ga. This site limits those cookies to 90 days. User-level and event-level data is retained according to the current Google Analytics property setting; standard aggregate reports may remain available for longer. The choice is stored in your browser under dw_consent.
Turn analytics off or on
Use the persistent Cookie settings button at the lower-left of any page. Choosing Turn analytics off stores a denied preference, removes this site’s Google Analytics cookies and prevents Analytics from loading on later pages. Choosing Keep analytics on keeps limited measurement active. You can also clear or block cookies in your browser or use Google’s opt-out browser add-on.
Hosting and technical records
The site is hosted by 10Web and WordPress. Hosting and security systems may process technical records such as IP address, browser details and request times to deliver, secure and diagnose the service. These records also provide an independent server-side count of visits. They are retained according to the host’s security and service settings.
If you email a.maclullich@ed.ac.uk, the message and address are used to handle the enquiry and retained only as long as needed for that purpose and any necessary record of the response.
